About 1735

We believe the everyday person deserves access to the knowledge and tools that shape their life—especially around history, community power, and property systems.

Our
Mission

1735 is a New Orleans-based nonprofit organization committed to transforming blighted, adjudicated, and abandoned properties into community assets. We use public history, property research, workforce training, and creative programming to educate, empower, and evolve underserved neighborhoods. By bridging cultural equity and urban development, 1735 creates sustainable spaces for housing, commerce, and the arts

Why “1735”

1735 stands for “to become one, or whole.” It represents our belief that education, opportunity, and ownership of knowledge should be accessible—not gatekept. We use three pillars—People, Property, and Productions—to guide our work and measure change.

Values

Public education first: plain language and practical tools

Community-centered: local needs over trends.

Historically grounded: accuracy matters.

Action-oriented: education that leads to outcomes.

Creative and culturally relevant: New Orleans deserves better storytelling
